About The "I Wish" Series...During the years I spent counseling school age children, a vast majority were either neglected, fatherless, or just confused about their existence, often wondering whether they were truly loved and important. Having spent my own childhood with feelings of insecurity and not always feeling like I belonged, I never wanted another child to feel abandoned and alone in a big world that too often is cold and cruel.
One of the most sacred privileges I am afforded as a counselor is to be able to get an up close and deeper look into the minds and hearts of our children. One of the saddest aspects is, I also collect the more disturbing view of the world that so abruptly rips away their innocence. Gently, I would ask them... "If I could grant you three wishes, what would you wish for?” Hence the "I Wish" series was born. |
I Wish Daddy Was Santa Claus
For my second book, I considered whether it was best to keep my "I Wish" series upbeat and jovial. My final decision was no. In dealing with children in my years I decided I wanted to tackle some hard hitting topics like racism and bullying, hence my second book entitled, "I Wish Colors Were Blind."
There is tremendous pain in the world and many of our children carry heavy burdens. Life doesn't come with a backpack of crayons for them, it comes with a boulder of hardships planted on their hearts. Often children go to bed hungry and crying with no one to love them and few that understand them. Many are neglected and bullied, and others are simply not seen. It is my vision to reach out to children of all races, denominations, social statuses and in every realm of the Earth to say, "You are special and accepted in your own way."
